The original was better

When the original Doom game was released I played it a lot. Today I am not a frequent gamer but I wanted to try Doom 3 to see if it was as good as some reviews say.

It seems to me that it follows the trend towards better sound and graphics. I suppose that the more realistic a game is the more immersed we will become and the more we will like it. In games such as this that is expressed by using excellent graphics and sound. Pre-recorded "movie" clips etc.

But the idea is false. A game is not better because it looks nicer! At least not in my opinion. In Doom 3 the game is very linear, at least in the demo it is impossible to get lost or even to make any significant choices about where to go. I don't think it will invite to repeated game-play.

I decided to download a demo of the original to compare the two versions. Despite its age and the relatively crappy graphics the original was *much* better! And you can still buy it, and run it under Windows!

My advice is: If you don't have the original yet - get that instead, it is much better.
