Ever Hear of "Inner Beauty" ?
My god, this game is gorgeus! I could spend all day(and often have) oggling the beautiful water, lush jungle, white sand, and every bit of its bump-mapped glory! The gamplay was very stealth-oriented. I played the first five 'sandbox' style levels and then...
The sixth level takes place in an abandoned mine, which, in contrast to the previous levels, was very dark and cramped. But I assumed that this was only a temporary change of pace so I gave it a chance and kept playing. Level after level passed, each more of an in-your-face corridor blaster than the last, with only breif escapes into outdoor areas that were too dark to enjoy and flooded with uber-mutants. (To Ubisoft's credit the way they reveal the mutants is very cool and reminicent of a horror movie.)
Anyhoo, I got to 16 and gave up. I went to gamefaqs, got some cheats, played for twenty minutes only to suddenly emerge into the daylight paridise I had been yearning for for the last week (*sigh*). Thinking that the nightmare was finally over, I removed the cheat codes and started to like the game again. But it couldn't have a happy ending, no way. Almost immediatly it slipped back into up-close-and-gory mode for the last three levels. In short, 14 out of 20, or 70% of the levels were, to put it nicely, not what you'd expect from the demo. Ok, they sucked. In my opinion the best graphics I have ever seen(even a year later) still don't make up for poor gameplay. If you want a very intense game you might like it though.
