Wanta play a GREAT game on a rickety, three-legged table?

It is a great, great game, certainly the best I've ever played. Read all the glowing reviews -- and they get it right, telling how involving and exciting gameplay is, how beautiful the settings are, how neat the physics are, and even the AI is pretty good. Unfortunately, in order to play the game, you need to use Steam, an online "service" which provides "security" features (which works to the manufacturer's benefit by preventing piracy but doesn't do a darn thing for gameplay.) Steam also supposedly provides updates and fixes -- I wouldn't know. I just know that every few days the game refuses to load at all, and I get some nifty little message about my Steam connection not working properly. Help via internet queries may take weeks to arrive and I have not found it especially helpful. Playing this game is like playing chess against a brilliant opponent on a beautiful inlaid chessboard with jeweled pieces -- set on top of a rickety three-legged game table, with one leg prone to collapse at unpredictable intervals. Buy the game, by all means; it's too great to miss. But beware of Steam.
