Good first impression and then it goes downhill
3 stars: I have not really given Myst IV a fair chance because the first puzzle is so difficult that I decided to stop playing after 15 minutes.
While the game was installing all of its 8 GBs, I was amazed by the screenshots that would interchange every few seconds. Once I had finally installed it (and had gotten it to work - something didn't work with multiple monitors running) and started playing it, it seemed like it would be a decent game. The graphics were great-- movie-quality...*ahem*... -- but the speech was very scripted. After the minute or so of video, I was left to figure out how to get out of the little vehicle-thing. After struggling with that, and going through many unnecessary screen transitions, I was then left to try to figure out how to work a radio puzzle. After struggling for abotu 15 minutes with that, I finally gave up.
Pros:
*Awesome graphics
*From what I saw, the game was very interactive. You could tap on just about everything and it would respond just as it would in real life.
*I didn't play enough to list anymore
Cons:
*HUGE (8GB) amount of space required for installation
*The first puzzle is ridiculous. Not a good way to start out the game, especially for people new to the series (like me)
*Terrible acting - everything is very scripted
*I didn't like the gospel music
*The transitions between screens takes too long - a few seconds even on the Radeon X850 (best one out at the moment)
In short, this is a ridiculously hard game. Maybe the game gets more fun once you pass the beginning puzzle. Maybe... If you don't lose interest by that time.
