Delenda est Carthago
This improvement on the Total War series warrants huge praise. The technology has finally arrived to give the player a sense of immersion in the times, places, and events of history. What a great educational tool. People interested in classical history will find themselves addicted to this outstanding piece of work. The principles of war actually apply at both the strategic and tactical levels. Playing it is like diving into a college course on Rome's transition from Italian republic to Mediteranian empire, while at the same time giving the player a lesson in the dynamics of politics and war. I am marginally diappointed that the Egypt faction bears little resemblance to the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Instead the characters look like some New Kingdom redux. I also wish it were easier to unlock the option to play other non-Roman factions. The game is so outstanding, however, one wonders what the next improvements are likely to be. I would really like to see an Alexandrian patch similar to the Viking patch made for Medieval Total War.
