The best strategy game on the field

If I were to say RTW is a good game, that would be an understatement. Solid gameplay with deep politics. I have many issues with this game though and I eventually gave up playing it. Firstly, the campaign is way too long. I play on the highest difficulty. Darn, it is really challenging! Even with cheats and such, I had 4 armies beseiging Rome and I still lost, it's ridiculous! Playing the war on Auto, would make you lose at least 20% more troops than if you were to lead the war yourself. Leading the war itself is excellent, I hate storming cities though, casualties are so high! Also, it gets extremely tedious if you were to personally handle each and every battle.......

The graphics are no doubt good...however my machine a Intel 3Ghz, 1Ghz Ram, 9800pro couldn't have a battle of 10,000 soldiers on a single map. Down too the lowest settings, I can only handle 6000 troops on a map. On the highest settings, only 2500 troops. The game gets really demanding on skirmish. My personal favourites are running Spartans into horses! Oh my, the sight is simply beholding, seeing the soldiers fall off the horses and such! There are many units in the game and all are very different and interesting. Another favourite is the heavily armoured horses, forgot the in-game term for it.

This is a very serious game, not for the casual gamer. You need to think, plan, strategise. It is a really militarised game. Conquering 50 cities, coping with rebels and enemies, getting enough rulers for your cities, enough generals for your armies. Fighting for land and money....man, without cheats it is almost impossible to play!! It is way too tough that is unless you play on easy! The game is really solid and will take up lots of your time, easily. Although, the surface map, turn-based combat gets tiresome at times....I myself got bored of the game.

If you like large-scale wars, provided you have a 256mb memory card like 6800GT or X800 XT, you can't have 10,000 troops on the same map. This game is fun at first, but playing it turns into a chore later on. Having to sustain your cities, grown populations and all, it's overwhelming micro-managment and having to fight wars and all...it's like going to work! I gave up...it is a serious game for serious historians.
